How to Make a Raindance AI Video

A practical walkthrough for the golden-hour pier edit: which photo to use, which look to pick, how to generate the clip and how to post it with the sound. We also cover the CapCut template route so you can choose the workflow that suits you.

What a Raindance AI video actually is

Before you start, it helps to know what you are building. A Raindance AI video is a short vertical clip that puts one person on a wooden pier above the sea at golden hour. The light is low and warm, the water glows behind them and the camera drifts slowly closer. People post it with the song “Raindance” by Dave and Tems playing underneath, which is where the name comes from.

Most posts follow the same shape. The video opens on an ordinary photo for a second or two, then cuts to the AI clip of the same person standing on the pier. That cut from everyday life to a music-video frame is the whole joke and the whole charm, so the photo you pick matters more than any setting.

What you need before you start

  • One clear photo of one person. A phone photo is fine. You do not need a professional camera.
  • Permission. Use a photo of yourself, or of someone who has agreed to be in the video.
  • A free account on Raindance AI so your clip is saved to My videos.
  • TikTok, Instagram or YouTube to add the sound and post.

That is the full list. You do not need a reference video, a prompt or an editing app.

Step 1: Choose the right photo

The generator keeps your face, hair, skin tone and clothing and builds a new scene around you, so it needs a clean look at the person.

  • Face sharp and visible. Front-facing or a slight three-quarter angle works best.
  • Waist-up or knees-up framing. A little room around the body lets the model animate shoulders, hair and clothing naturally.
  • Even light. Daylight from a window is ideal. Harsh shadows across the face reduce likeness.
  • One person only. Group photos confuse the model about who should stand on the pier.
  • No heavy filters, sunglasses or motion blur. These hide the details that keep you recognisable.

Do not worry about the background. A bedroom, an office or a busy street is fine, because the scene is rebuilt from scratch. If anything, an everyday background makes the opening cut in your post funnier.

Step 2: Choose a template

Raindance AI has three looks. Each one is a ready-made template for the scene, the light and the motion.

  • Sunset Pier is the closest match to the trend: long wooden boards, a low sun on the horizon and warm amber light.
  • Ocean Breeze puts you beside open water at dusk and adds more movement in your hair and clothing.
  • Vintage Film keeps the seaside sunset but softens the colour and adds a light 35 mm grain, which suits a nostalgic caption.

If you are not sure, start with Sunset Pier. You can generate again from the same photo with a different look and keep the version you like most.

Step 3: Generate the clip

Tick the box confirming you have permission to use the photo, then press Generate. The credit cost is shown before you start, and failed generations return their credits automatically.

Generation runs in two stages. First the tool composes a single 9:16 golden-hour frame with you in it. Then it animates that frame into a five-second shot: a slow step, a slight turn toward the horizon, a soft smile and the breeze in your hair. The studio shows which stage is running. Most videos are ready within a few minutes, and you can leave the page and find the result later in My videos.

When it finishes, check the face, hands, clothing and background before you share. AI video can vary from run to run, so a second attempt is normal if one detail looks off.

Step 4: Export, add the sound and post

Download the MP4. It is vertical, five seconds long and silent, so it drops straight into any short-video app.

  1. Open TikTok, Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts and start a new post.
  2. Optional: put your original photo first for one or two seconds, then the AI clip. This is the classic before-and-after cut.
  3. Add “Raindance” from the app’s sound library if it is offered for your account and region. Business accounts often have a smaller music catalogue, so check before you plan the post around the song.
  4. Switch on the app’s AI-generated content label. TikTok, Instagram and YouTube all have one.
  5. Write a short caption. The posts that travel furthest are usually played completely straight.

The CapCut route, step by step

Plenty of tutorials make this edit in CapCut instead. It is a good option if you already edit there or want a longer sequence with several shots. The usual flow looks like this:

  1. Find a template. Open the CapCut app, go to Templates and search for “Raindance”. You will see many community templates. They differ a lot: some are rain overlays, some are lyric edits and some are built for the golden-hour pier look.
  2. Check what the template needs. Most templates ask for a set number of photos or clips. Some only add effects and text on top of footage you already have, so they will not create the pier scene for you.
  3. Tap Use template and add your media. Replace each placeholder with your photo or clips in the order shown.
  4. Preview and adjust. Swap media, trim clips or edit text where the template allows it.
  5. Export and post. Many templates already include a sound. If yours does not, add the song from your social app’s library.

The two are not rivals. A common workflow is to generate the pier clip with Raindance AI and then drop it into CapCut alongside your other shots. Templates also come and go: a template you saw in a tutorial may be unavailable in your region or removed by its creator, so it helps to have a route that does not depend on one.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Using a group photo. Crop to one person first, or the result may blend faces.
  • Expecting lip sync. The clip is a quiet cinematic moment, not a performance.
  • Downloading the official music video. Do not re-upload it or cut it into your post. Use the sound from the app library and your own clip.
  • Skipping consent. Never upload a stranger’s photo or a celebrity’s. Only use photos you own or have permission to use.
  • Forgetting the AI label. Platforms ask for it, and viewers appreciate it.

Quick recap

Pick a sharp photo of one person, choose Sunset Pier, Ocean Breeze or Vintage Film, generate, check the result, then post it with the sound from your app’s library and the AI label switched on. If you prefer CapCut, use the generated clip as one shot inside your template. Either way, the golden-hour pier does the heavy lifting.

Questions people ask

Can I make a Raindance AI video without editing skills?

Yes. With Raindance AI you upload one photo, choose a look and press Generate. There is no timeline, no keyframes and no prompt to write. The only editing step is adding the sound inside TikTok or Instagram when you post.

Does the video include the song Raindance?

No. The download is a silent 5-second vertical MP4. Add the song from your social app’s sound library if it is available for your account and region. We do not provide the recording or any music download.

Will the person in the clip sing or lip-sync?

No. The clip shows a calm music-video moment: a slow step on the pier, a turn toward the horizon, a soft smile and hair moving in the breeze. If you want a lip-synced performance, this tool is not the right fit.

Why did my Raindance AI video not look like me?

The most common causes are a blurry or heavily filtered photo, sunglasses, a strong side angle or several people in the frame. Try a sharper, front-facing photo with even light and one person, then generate again.

Is the CapCut template method free?

CapCut templates are often free to use, but some effects or exports may need a paid plan, and template availability changes by region and over time. Check the template page in the CapCut app before you start.

Can I make a couple or duet version?

Raindance AI makes one person per clip. For a duet edit, make one clip from each person’s photo, with their permission, and cut the two clips together in your editing app before adding the sound.
